What is a preliminary estimate?

Architectural design floor plans with a pen on a wooden table.

A Preliminary Estimate is a comprehensive take-off or Bill of Quantities (BOQ), including measured quantities and informed allowances for subcontractors and materials, based on costs from similar recently completed projects and current market rates.

It provides a detailed and structured understanding of project costs, offering clarity on how the project is expected to be delivered.

It is suited to builders and clients who require an accurate and considered assessment of costs, supporting design development and cost planning throughout the project.
